Reading have reportedly opened talks to sign one-cap Nigeria attacker Alex Iwobi from Arsenal on loan.
Iwobi, who has made five appearances for
the Premier League giants’ first-team this term, made his international
debut for the Super Eagles in their 2-0 defeat to DR Congo in
Belgium last year.
The 19-year-old, who switched his
international allegiance to Nigeria after playing youth football for
England, is expected to slip further down the pecking order at the
Emirates Stadium as the Gunners are set to wrap-up the £5m signing of
Egypt’s attacking midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Swiss side Basel.
According to Daily Star on
Wednesday, Reading manager Brian McDermott has identified Iwobi as a
good replacement for the Royals’ top scorer Nick Blackman, who has
dumped the club for their Championship rivals Derby for £2.5m.
McDermott is said to be keen to bring Iwobi to Madejski Stadium to help the team.
Meanwhile, national Under-23 team coach
Samson Siasia is hopeful of strengthening his squad with the addition of
Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success, Iwobi and Aminu Umar ahead of the Rio
2016 Olympic Games in August, according to Goal.
