Bayelsa election riggers must be jailed –Murray-Bruce

The senator representing Bayelsa-East senatorial district, Ben Murray-Bruce, has condemned the violence that characterised Saturday’s rerun election in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and other polling units in Bayelsa State.
Murray-Bruce said those that caused violence during the election must be tried and jailed.
In a series of tweets on his official Twitter handle on Sunday, the senator shared pictures of victims of election violence, describing it as evil.
He said former President Goodluck Jonathan left a legacy of peaceful elections but that what was witnessed in Bayelsa State on Saturday was despicable.
He said, “The victims of the election violence are Nicholas Sampson, Oweiga Clement, Opiriye Iyala and Princewill Tokubo. The International Criminal Court must try election riggers.
“It is unconscionable to use free and fair election as a ladder to get to the top only to remove the ladder when you get there. The opposition blamed ex-President Jonathan for deploying soldiers for elections in Ekiti State in 2014, yet that election was peaceful and bloodless. Why is Bayelsa different?
“The sheer savagery of those who tried to stop Governor Seriake Dickson with brute force makes me more concerned about future polls. Peaceful elections are the legacy of former President Jonathan. But what we have today is despicable. Violence only begets violence.”
